Choosing one
Width first: measure the gap beside your bed at its narrowest point, skirting board included, and leave about 2 cm. The most common width is 45 cm; the round drum is 36 cm, and the 55 cm walnut table needs a wide gap. Then height: match the top of the table to the top of your mattress within about 5 cm. Depth matters where the bed leaves little room in front. The shallowest floor-standing ones are the black table with gold knobs, at 30.8 cm, and the Hamble with drawer and shelf, at 33 cm.

Is fluted the same as ribbed or reeded?
Strictly, fluting is a row of hollow grooves and reeding a row of rounded ridges. In furniture shops, fluted, reeded and ribbed are used for the same look, and you will find all three here.
